The Centralization Problem
Beyond technical barriers, today's agent platforms present concerning centralization issues:
Proprietary architectures: Most agent platforms use closed systems that create vendor lock-in
Centralized data storage: User data and agent configurations reside on corporate servers
Single points of failure: Centralized infrastructure creates vulnerability to outages
Platform dependency: Changes to terms, pricing, or features can disrupt critical functions
Limited sovereignty: Users have minimal control over their agents or associated data
This centralization contradicts the promise of AI agents as sovereign, user-controlled extensions of human capability—replacing technical gatekeepers with platform gatekeepers.
